Teenager shot and killed in North Mankato

A investigation is underway after a 17-year-old boy was found to have been shot before his vehicle crashed into a North Mankato townhome.

North Mankato Police recieved reports of gunfire coming from Pleasant View Drive and Willow Lane around 11:03 p.m. A short time later, police said they also got a call regarding a car that crashed into a townhome on Willow Trail.

Arriving at the crash scene, police said they found a 17-year-old boy inside the vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Police provided life-saving measures until the boy could be taken to the hospital, where he was later declared dead.

North Mankato Police believe the shooting was not a random act, but said there is no known threat to the public at this time.

His identity has not been made public at this time.
