An Inver Grove Heights man has learned his prison sentence after being charged with stealing federal government weaponry in the aftermath of a non-fatal shooting by an immigration agent.

33-year-old Raul Gutierrez Jr. and several other people broke into vehicles belonging to the FBI on Jan. 14 following the shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis in north Minneapolis.

When his accomplice, Alexio Miranda, arrived, the vehicle was damaged and the back was open. Court records say that Miranda broke into a vault in the cargo area of the car and took a rifle, silencer and bag of ammunition.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said that in the past, Gutierrez had been convicted of burglary and domestic assault, which prohibited him from possessing firearms.

Gutierrez pleaded guilty in May and was sentenced to 54 months (4.5 years) in prison, according to the Department of Justice.

Miranda pleaded guilty to possessing a stolen firearm in June, and his sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 28.
