Vehicles damaged overnight in Minneapolis window smashing spree

By Twincitieslocalnews staff

Minneapolis Police are working to find those responsible after dozens of car windows were smashed overnight in several Minneapolis neighborhoods.

Minneapolis police say at least 87 vehicles were impacted in separate incidents from 2-7 a.m. Friday. While some of those involved similar suspect vehicle descriptions, MPD says there isn’t a common one for them all.

Investigators are still working to determine if there are any connections between the incidents, and the number of vehicles damaged may continue to climb as additional reports are filed.

According to a statement from Minneapolis police, the department initiated a Crime Spree Response Protocol in response to all of the reports, and officers canvassed the areas. However, no arrests were made as of Friday afternoon.

Police are also asking anyone with surveillance video of an overnight car break-in to share it with MPD.

Multiple vehicles across the city were targeted.

With the city facing a $60 million budget deficit, Rainville says these crimes are another reminder of what area they can’t make cuts to.
