One person has died after a freak incident in Hopkins saw utility pole fall on their vehicle, sparking a fire.

Hopkins Police and firefighters were called to the 300 block of Blake Road North, where the utility pole fell onto the vehicle. The vehicle then caught fire, police said.

The person inside the vehicle died as a result of the incident.

Authorities said the scene remains active as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and fire.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office will release the identity of the person who died.
