A Wisconsin man will be behind bars for life after he shot and killed his roommate in St. Paul last year.

Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena announced Tuesday that 37-year-old Jacob Audie was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole for the death of 72-year-old Michael Schille.

On Aug. 19, Audie was found guilty of one count of premeditated first-degree murder and one count of intentional second-degree murder.

In April 2025, Audie called 911 to report that he shot Schille inside their South St. Paul apartment. Officers found Schille on a couch with a gunshot wound on the side of his face, according to court records.

An AR-style rifle, multiple rifle magazines and an empty casing were found throughout the apartment. According to court records, Audie lived with Schille for at least one to two years, during which he helped care for him and clean the apartment.

Audie remains in custody at the Dakota County Jail while awaiting transfer to the Department of Corrections.
