A former federal agent from Eagan was sentenced to seven years in prison after admitting to producing child sexual abuse.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Minnesota announced that 53-year-old Timothy Gregg was sentenced to 84 months in prison for his role in transporting and producing child sexual abuse material.

At the time of the criminal conduct, officials said Gregg was a special agent with Homeland Security Investigations in Minnesota and a task force officer with the FBI.

Federal officials said there is a zero tolerance for crimes against children and will hold offenders accountable.

We hope this sentence provides some sense of justice and safety for the victim and their family, said FBI Minneapolis Field Office Special Agent in Charge Christopher Dotson.

According to court documents, Gregg used his government-issued email address to reserve hotel rooms where he encountered an underage victim. Authorities issued his arrest warrant a day before he was set to join a federal law enforcement operation in the Twin Cities area.
