An active Owatonna father faces a long road to recovery after suffering a series of strokes over the weekend.

Michael Selle was taking a Brazilian jiu-jitsu class with his teenage daughter Saturday morning at Minnesota Top Team in Eagan when he started to experience early warning signs, including dizziness and numbness, but pushed through and finished the class, according to a GoFundMe.

As the pair left the gym, Selle attempted to drive them home, but he started to hit curbs and had to pull over. He told his daughter, McKayla, that his arm felt numb, and she knew he needed to immediately go to the nearest emergency room.

After the father and daughter arrived at Abbott Northwestern WestHealth in Plymouth, they learned that Selle had torn a carotid artery and suffered a stroke.

A freak accident that none of us could have anticipated, McKayla writes on the GoFundMe page. One moment we were sharing a passion we both love, and the next, our lives changed in an instant.

A few hours later, Selle was transferred to Abbott Northwestern Hospitals Neurological ICU in Minneapolis, where he suffered a second, more severe stroke, which required a stent to be put in.

The GoFundMe is raising money for Selles medical bills, rehabilitation, and daily needs, as he remains unable to work.

My father is active, dedicated, and full of life. Now, hes unable to work as he focuses on healing and rehabilitation, McKayla writes. The medical bills are already piling up, and the costs of ongoing care and therapy are overwhelming.

?As his daughter, I want to do everything I can to support him, but we cant do it alone.
