Woman arrested after Monticello hit-and-run

A 62-year-old St. Cloud woman was arrested after investigators identified her as the suspected driver in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian and killed his dog in Monticello.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:28 a.m. Thursday, July 10, near the intersection of County Road 18 NE and Oak Ridge Drive.

According to the Wright County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived to find an adult man who had been struck by a vehicle while walking his dog. Investigators determined the man and his dog were crossing Jason Avenue when they were hit by a vehicle that left the scene.

The man suffered injuries and was transported by ambulance to North Memorial Health Hospital. His dog died at the scene.

Following the crash, Wright County Sheriff's asked for the public's help locating a suspected 2014-16 metallic blue Subaru Forester believed to be missing its passenger-side mirror.

On Monday, July 13, sheriff's investigators identified Denise Lagou, 62, of St. Cloud, as the suspected driver of the 2014 blue Subaru Forester involved in the crash.

Lagou was arrested and booked into the Wright County Jail on probable cause for leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries. Formal charges are pending review by the Wright County Attorney's Office.

The crash remains under investigation.
