Dog killed in hit-and-run crash in Wright County

Wright County authorities are searching for the driver of a vehicle believed to have hit a dog owner and his pet before driving away in Monticello.

According to the Sheriff’s Office said a man had been walking his dog around 7:28 a.m. near the intersection of County Roa 18 NE and Oak Ridge Drive. As the two began crossing Jason Avenue, they were struck by a vehicle that then drove away.

The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office, and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the dog did not survive.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office is still working to identify the suspect vehicle, believed to be a 2014 to 2016 metallic blue Subaru Forester missing a passenger-side mirror.
