Zimmerman kidnapping suspect formally arraigned in Federal Court

By Twincitieslocalnews staff

The man accused of the Zimmerman kidnapping of young girl back in late January has formally been arraigned on five charges on Aug. 13 in Minneapolis Federal Court.

Joseph Andrew Bragg, 28, of International Falls, is facing two counts of Production of Child Pornography, one count of Possession of Child Pornography, one count of Kidnapping of a Minor and one count of Attempted Transportation of a Minor.

During the Aug. 13 hearing, he was granted a 120-day continuance so his lawyer could review and share evidence with him. A federal grand jury indictment against Bragg was unsealed back in late May, leading to these new charges.

The charges are in addition to the local charges he is facing in Sherburne County for the same crimes.

He allegedly abducted the child after she got off a school bus in Zimmerman. She was allegedly recovered in the back seat of his car 140-miles away in Albert Lea and a search of Bragg’s phone revealed evidence of child sexual abuse of multiple victims who were minors.

Police also alleged he has repeatedly reached out of parents in neighborhoods he’s been in and aggressive offered babysitting services. The victim’s mother has received similar messaging over social media and had blocked him because she felt uncomfortable prior to the kidnapping.

Bragg is being held in Sherburne County Jail while both his trials are pending.
