A 3-year-old boy has serious injuries after he ended up in the crocodile enclosure at a zoo in the United Kingdom, and police arrested a suspect on suspicion of attempted murder.
Officers in Huntingdon were called to the Johnsons of Old Hurst Zoo on Thursday afternoon after a report of an incident involving a toddler in the crocodile enclosure. The boy was taken to a hospital and is in critical condition but is stable.
A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Police said they don't believe the suspect and the child know each other.
At this stage we are speaking to people who were at the zoo at the time of this distressing incident to understand more about the circumstances, said Detective Inspector Verity McCann in the release. Officers are supporting the boy’s family at hospital, and our thoughts remain with them.
The zoo said in a statement that the Tropical House where the crocodile enclosure is located will remain closed until further notice, out of respect for the boy's family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the boy and his family following the incident that occurred today, the zoo said.
