Brooklyn Park police are searching for a suspect after an attempted carjacking just before midnight on Sunday night.

The victim was attacked from behind and pistol-whipped but the man was able to get away with his car keys.

The victim said he was taken to the hospital where he was treated for lacerations to his face and the back of his head.

According to police, the attempted carjacking comes as Minneapolis police have seen a nearly 28% spike in car thefts this year.
