Blaine man airlifted after rollover crash

A Blaine man was airlifted for medical care following a crash Tuesday, May 19.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash occurred at about 3:50 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 169 near 97th Street.

Arthur Canfield, 87, of Blaine, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado when he attempted to pass a pickup truck pulling a trailer. During the maneuver, his vehicle struck the trailer, then hit the median and rolled over.

The second vehicle, a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pulling a 2021 PJ T6202 trailer, was driven by Zachary Schwendeman, 32, of Cologne.

Canfield sustained non-life-threatening injuries but was airlifted from the scene by North Memorial Flight to a hospital for treatment.

Schwendeman and his passenger, Brennan Schulte, 26, of Monticello, were not injured.

All individuals were wearing seat belts, and alcohol was not a factor. Road conditions were dry.

The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office, Milaca Fire Department, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and North Memorial Flight assisted at the scene.
