A Saint Paul man was sentenced Friday for his involvement in a shootout in a Cub Foods parking lot.

Isaiah Joel Parkin, 22, pled guilty to using a dangerous weapon in a drive-by shooting. Prosecutors said Parkin shot first and two other people followed suit on March 17, 2024. The bullets pierced vehicles, windows and an aisle in Cub Foods at 1177 Clarence Street.

Multiple people not involved in the conflict were in the parking lot and grocery store at the time of the shooting.

Parkin was sentenced to 41 months (3 years and 5 months) in prison.

This Cub Foods location also saw gunfire in July 2025, when a St. Paul man took a child without permission. St. Paul officers found Tevin Marcel Bellaphant and the child at Aldi and chased him across the street to Cub Foods.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension reported that Bellaphant fired at officers during the chase and three officers returned fire. The man died by suicide while officers were speaking with him in Cub Foods.
