A Monticello man is facing felony charges after authorities executing a search warrant found methamphetamine and a firearm inside a home located in a school zone.

Russell Melton, 57, was charged in Wright County District Court with third-degree possession of methamphetamine in a school zone and fifth-degree drug possession, both felonies.

Members of the Wright County Sheriff�s Office Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant May 1 at Melton�s residence on Martin Drive. Investigators recovered about 2.4 grams of methamphetamine from a desk drawer, along with a .22-caliber revolver and ammunition.

Melton made his first court appearance May 4 and was released on conditions. His next hearing is scheduled for July 17.
