Last week marked an exciting return for Monticello’s high school sports, with girls tennis leading the way. The Magic team kicked off their season with a series of impressive wins, showing determination and skill from the very first match.
On Thursday, Monticello dominated Fridley with a perfect 7-0 victory, followed by a close 4-3 win over Buffalo later that day. The momentum continued with another 7-0 shutout against Moorhead and a 7-0 win over Robbinsdale Armstrong. Monday brought a thrilling 4-3 victory against St. Michael-Albertville, keeping the Magic’s unbeaten streak alive.
Standout players like Paisyn Wiley, Haidyn Holker, and the Huberty sisters led the charge, delivering strong singles and doubles performances. Despite a tough loss for Wiley against Buffalo, the team’s unity and clutch plays, especially from doubles teams Larson and Marcus, helped secure vital wins. The Magic’s resilience shone brightest in a nail-biting 4-3 win over the Knights, where late victories sealed their undefeated record.
Looking ahead, Monticello prepares to finish a postponed match and face Alexandria before competing in a triangular tournament at Delano. With such a strong start, the Magic girls tennis team is poised for an exciting season filled with hard-fought battles and memorable victories.
