Multiple people have been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to stage an attack on the UFC fight held at the White House on Sunday, according to the FBI.
FBI Director Kash Patel released a statement Tuesday on social media stating that law enforcement agencies became aware of a potential threat to the Freedom 250 event on June 10, four days before the UFC event.
According to Patel's post, 23 people were reportedly discussing "pre-operational activity" in Signal chats in an alleged explosive-drone plot targeting the event. A multi-agency response, including assistance from the U.S. Department of Justice, was executed in several states and led to the arrest of several people.
According to court documents, the plan called for members to leave their homes June 12 or June 13 and meet in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Proper allegedly planned to bring weapons and body armor, including extra body armor for other members of the group.
Messages obtained from Proper's phone show he discussed the plot with others and highlighted several Republican lawmakers he said should be targeted because they received donations from causes supportive of Israel, the affidavit said.
Proper has been charged with conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States, attempted murder of any officer or employee of the United States, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence and receipt or transfer of a firearm used to commit a felony.
