Remembering Charlie Kirk: a legacy marked by tragedy and tribute

    By Twincitieslocalnews staff

On September 10, 2025, tragedy struck at Utah Valley University when Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot during an event. The shooting shocked the community and sent ripples across the nation.

Kirk was speaking to a crowd when he was shot in the neck. Despite urgent medical care, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Two days later, 23-year-old Tyler Robinson was arrested and charged with Kirk’s murder. Robinson has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder charges and faces the possibility of the death penalty if convicted.

One year after this heartbreaking event, Turning Point USA honored their late co-founder with an 8-foot-tall statue erected outside their Phoenix headquarters near 48th Street and Beverly Road. The statue stands as a powerful tribute to Kirk’s impact and the lasting influence of his vision.

This memorial not only marks a place of remembrance but also serves as a reminder of the profound loss experienced by those who knew and admired him, preserving his legacy for years to come.
