Suspect in custody following hourslong standoff

A man is in custody following an hourslong standoff in St. Paul Minnesota on Saturday afternoon.

St. Paul Police Department at around 11:30 a.m., officers responded to the 2700 block of South Avenue East for a 33-year-old man who was known to have access to a gun and was making threats toward a family member.

When police arrived, they tried to make contact with the man, but were unsuccessful. Officers created a perimeter around the home, authorities said.

Negotiators from the Ramsey County SWAT Team responded and established communication with the man. North St. Paul police said that just after 2 p.m., the suspect came out of the home and was taken into custody.

The man was brought to a local hospital and then will be booked into the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center on pending charges.

No other information was released at this time.
