Three men are facing charges after an alleged drug deal escalated into a fatal shooting in north Mankato on May 23.
The North Mankato Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Pleasant View Drive and Willow Lane. Upon arriving, officers found a vehicle crashed into a townhome.
Tyson Goodsell, 17, was in the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head. He died later at a nearby hospital.
Now three men, ranging in age from 18-23, are facing felony charges. Abdikhadar Fakhi Mohidin, 20, is accused of second-degree murder, aggravated robbery, assault and illegal possession of a firearm.
Ryan Robert Wolner, an 18-year-old from Mankato, is charged as an accomplice in the murder and robbery. Ahmed Fuad Mohamud, 23, is facing the least amount of charges, with two counts relating to attempted robbery.
The witness told officers that Wolner contacted him later that night to say that Goodsell had been shot dead. Wolner allegedly told the witness that Mohidin had shot Goodsell after he drove over his foot, and Mohamud had been present at the scene.
North Mankato officers confirmed with a friend of Goodsell's that he had left home on May 23 to sell the witness $3,000 worth of THC cartridges. Officers used city cameras to locate the witness' Impala, which had been traveling alongside a Ford Focus registered to Mohamud.
Wolner's friend drove him to Mankato and, along the drive, Wolner threw two cellphones into a ditch. A few hours later, police found Mohamud and another person searching in the same ditch.
Mohidin told investigators that he, Wolner, Mohamud and a fourth person had multiple conversations after the shooting about hiding the evidence. Officers also located the Impala, and upon searching it, found one live round of rifle ammunition and one spent casing.
