Authorities say a suspect was wounded Monday morning in a shooting involving St. Paul police outside Regions Hospital.

According to the St. Paul Police Department, a 911 caller reported a domestic assault on the 400 block of Temperance Street around 9:15 a.m. Once officers arrived, the caller said the suspect was armed and had left the scene.

The suspect later turned up outside Regions Hospital on the 200 block of East 12th Street. Police said an encounter between the suspect and police escalated to gunfire, leaving the suspect injured.

According to SPPD, the suspect is being treated at Regions Hospital. No officers were hurt.

As of 1:15 p.m., the hospital was open to patients, according to a Regions spokesperson.

SPPD says it has asked the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to investigate the use-of-force incident.
